Hospital Clínic de Barcelona successfully treats the first case in Spain of vitreomacular traction without surgery
Vitreomacular traction (VMT) is an eye disease that originates when the vitreous humor naturally detaches from the retina, but does not do so completely in some areas, especially in the macula.
Hospital Clínica de Barcelona has managed for the first time in Spain to treat vitreomacular traction without surgery, carrying out a treatment through ocriplasmin injections. The application of this protein makes it possible to separate the vitreous humor from the macula and reduce the symptoms of VMT.
This disease affects some 165,000 people in Spain, according to a statement from the same hospital.
